As you prepare for bariatric surgery, your surgeon will be reviewing the procedures that are available. They are the Roux-en-y gastric bypass and adjustable gastric band.
Both procedures are known as minimally invasive surgeries. That is, they are performed through small incisions in the abdomen, rather than through one very large incision. The major advantage of minimally invasive surgery is that you'll recover more quickly.
Roux-en-y, usually called gastric bypass, is more well-known and most frequently performed. Depending on your particular situation, there may be advantages to the one procedure over the other. Your surgeon will discuss this thoroughly with you.
