"So often I hear on a cancer patient's last visit, 'I didn't want to go through this, but if someone had to, this is a great place to come.'"
—Trish Mayhew, RN, BSN, OCN

An ounce of prevention...

Many types of cancer can be prevented with lifestyle and behavioral changes, such as:
  • Avoiding certain products
  • Avoiding exposure to certain elements or chemicals
  • Refraining from tobacco use
  • Limiting fat intake
  • Avoiding harmful rays of the sun
Some cancers caused by inherited factors are unavoidable. However, not everyone with a particular risk factor for cancer actually develops the disease. In fact, most people do not.

To reduce the likelihood of getting cancer, you can:
  • Protect yourself from certain risks factors whenever possible.
  • Schedule regular checkups.
  • Get recommended cancer screening examinations.
When cancer is found in its early stages, you stand a better chance of beating the disease.
